Salton Sea – Abandoned North Shore Beach & Yacht Club
Posted by: | CommentsA quick tour of the abandoned North Shore Yacht Club at the Salton Sea in the middle of the desert in California. Bask in its glory. The North Shore Yacht Club is an historically significant–not to mention architecturally significant–part of California’s legacy. The North Shore Yacht club was the whimsical design of noted architect Albert Frey, who just happened to be a resident of the Coachella Valley. Completed in 1958 by developers Ray Ryan and Trav Rogers, North Shore Beach Yacht Club was one of the largest marinas in Southern California and carried a price tag of million. Celebrities like The Beach Boys, Jerry Lewis, and the Marx Brothers partied there and / or docked boats at the marina. Renovation of the old Yacht Club on the North Shore of the Salton Sea; the Albert Frey building will be restored and turned into a community center and child care facility. The .5 million project will create 80 construction jobs. This location is featured in the video Swing Out Sister – Fooled By A Smile The Salton Sea was recently featured on Life After People on the History Channel. I have several hundred Salton Sea photos – including many of what is seen in this video – on my Flickr page at www.flickr.com

Scandinavian Cruiser 20 – Classic One-Design Day-Boat
Posted by: | CommentsSailing the Scandinavian Cruiser 20 for two warm and sunny days on November 25-26, 2009 with light wind of 5-10 knots in Xiamen, China. The water and air temperature was around 25C (80F). I wish sailing could be like this every day! In this 2.5 minute video you watch the first test sailing of the Scandinavian Cruiser 20 on September 26, 2009. The idea behind Scandinavian Cruisers is to recapture the essence of sailing, by going back in time to a period a century ago when boats were considered truly beautiful, and sailing was a genteel, aspirational and romantic lifestyle. Scandinavian Cruisers combines the style, beauty, high speed and superior maneuverability of classic Skerry Cruisers (Square Meter Yachts) with todays busy modern lifestyle and the latest technologies. The design of Scandinavian Cruisers is admired equally by experienced sailors and landlubbers, giving the owner true pride of ownership.
