DIY yacht self steering system (wind vane) on Cal 34
Posted by: | CommentsThis is a video of our wind vane at work, going downwind in ~20 kt of wind. The boat is a Cal 34, we built and installed a auxiliary rudder on the transom and we build and installed a trim tab on it. When the vane is engaged, we attach the main rudder in the middle and enjoy the ride, in this case, a 10 hours sail from Bathurst NB to Carleton sur mer Qc. The wind vane is not finished yet, we still need to install a tiller on the auxiliary rudder and we need a better counter-weight then that piece of lead…
